The brief
A nonprofit campaign needed a bilingual fundraising site for earthquake relief in Venezuela, running for one month and built around basketball.
What I built
I built it in React with Vite: a pixel-art basketball theme, a hero video loop, Spanish and English copy from one content file, a scoreboard where each donation adds a basket, and a live donation feed that replays recent gifts one at a time. Donations go through a Zeffy embed on the page.
Features
- Spanish and English, picked from the browser and remembered
- Scoreboard with total baskets, lives impacted and total donated
- Live donation feed in the corner, paced so it never stacks up
- All copy in one content file
- Pixel-art frames drawn as SVG and redrawn on resize
- Zeffy donation embed
Challenges
Problem. The site had to be ready within a few weeks for a one-month run.
Solution. A small React build with all copy in one file, so text changes never touched components.
Problem. The pixel-art corner notches had to keep one continuous line around rounded boxes at any size.
Solution. Each box draws its outline as an SVG path and redraws it when its size changes.
Takeaway
The site came down when the month ended, so these screenshots come from a local build.
